Functional trainers, also known as dual-adjustable pulley cable machines, have surged in popularity over the past 15 years due to their versatility and compact design. Unlike traditional cable crossovers, functional trainers feature closely positioned cables, typically 3 to 4 feet apart, allowing for an extensive range of exercises performed in a standing position.
Key Features of Functional Trainers:
1. Versatile Exercise Options:
Functional trainers enable a nearly unlimited variety of exercises, such as standing chest presses, cable flies, rows, shoulder presses, and standing cable squats. This versatility makes them suitable for a comprehensive full-body workout.
2. Compact Design:
These machines are incredibly space-efficient, usually occupying just about 3 by 4 feet of floor space. With a height clearance of around 7 feet, they can fit into most home gyms or smaller workout spaces.
3. Pull-Up Bars:
Many functional trainers come with single or multi-grip pull-up bars, allowing for chin-ups, pull-ups, and wide-grip exercises. Some models feature articulating handles, enabling quick adjustments to neutral, wide, or curl positions.
4. Adjustable Pulley Columns:
Functional trainers typically have columns with adjustable pulleys that can be set to various heights. This adjustability allows users to target different muscle groups and perform a full-body workout.
5. Functional and Sport-Specific Training:
These machines are ideal for general fitness enthusiasts and those seeking sport-specific training. They are perfect for performing functional movements that mimic day-to-day activities, such as lifting groceries or picking up children. Functional trainers also support sport-specific exercises like golf or baseball swings.
6. Core Engagement:
One of the primary benefits of functional trainers is their emphasis on core engagement. Most exercises performed on these machines require the use of core muscles, helping to strengthen and stabilize the core, which is essential for overall functional fitness.

Full-Body Workouts:
Functional trainers offer a comprehensive workout solution, allowing users to target every major muscle group.

Very pleased with every aspect of this machine. Couldn't be happier with it!!!!
Customer service and the equipment and price of it over the holidays, on sale, was amazing! Will definitely consider in the future when looking to purchase other equipment.
I am very impressed with the quality of this machine. Putting it together every nut and bolt fit perfectly, all moving parts, rails and cables are top notch. I also want to give a big shout out to Chris at Gym Concepts for his expertise and all his help with the sale and especially for setting up the delivery ( even sent me a picture of it been loaded on the delivery truck) very professional and punctual thanks again Chris, I’m looking forward in the coming months to head down to Gym Concepts for some in store shopping.
Delivery and set up was excellent. This stepper is easy to use, especially for someone with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The fact that the back of the seat can recline makes exercising so comfortable. The arms are great because they move straight back not upwards. I'm 5' tall and seat adjusts to suit me well. I love this machine. I put it in the sunroom and can look outside to the gardens. Very happy. I used NuStep while in rehab. Spirit Fitness is every bit as good and has more features.
